As part of the Additive for Mobility (A4M) project, RECENDT is working to ensure the quality of additively manufactured components for applications in the aerospace, automotive and rail industries. Using laser ultrasonics (LUS), the manufacturing process – for example, in WAAM – is monitored in real time to detect defects at an early stage and minimise scrap.
In addition to in-situ monitoring, RECENDT also enables comprehensive non-destructive testing after manufacture. This allows defects and microstructures to be analysed with precision. The aim is to achieve end-to-end quality assurance throughout the entire process chain and to build confidence in safety-critical components.
A key objective is to transfer laser-ultrasonic technology from the laboratory to industrial applications. The aim is to characterise defects and microstructures with such precision that the data can be integrated directly into digital twins for intelligent process control. This is expected to lead to a significant increase in resource efficiency and a reduction in scrap.
